MetVes - towards the development of microvesicle reference materials

Due to their small size and heterogeneity, detection of extracellular vesicles offers many challenges. Thus, the need for standard reference materials is inevitable in the development of reliable, comparable and quantitative analysis of extracellular vesicles in biological fluids.

Within the European Metrology Research Programme (EMRP) a 3 year collaboration project started in June 2012, coordinated by Dr Rienk Nieuwland (The Netherlands): "Metrological characterisation of micro-vesicles from body fluids as non-invasive diagnostic biomarkers." Go to the MetVes website here.

In conjuction with one of RRNEVs own projects "Standardization of the use of NanoSight for the characterization of extracellular vesicles", we have expressed interest in especially one of the MetVes work blocks (WB4 - Microvesicle reference materials) and have signed up to receive further information on the topic.

The first MetVes Report was available in June 2013; on the needs, specifications and commercial sources of microvesicle reference materials (pdf, 258 KB).
